Granny’s Thoughts: Affordable Housing

Wednesday, June 26th

Hey, y’all.

There’s been a lot of coverage lately about how hard it can be to find a decent place to live in Raleigh. I think that’s a shame.

Back in the day, it wasn’t so hard to find a spot. But then again, there certainly weren’t as many people living in Raleigh, either. The fact that we’ve gotten bigger just means that we need to have bigger and better plans to make room for more of us to live together.

To my mind, affordable housing has to be a part of that. That issue gets paid lip-service year after year, but now it’s really time to address it. People are not going to stop coming to Raleigh, and that’s a good thing. This is a great place to live and raise a family, but it also needs to be a place where those families can afford to be.

It might’ve been realistic to have a white picket fence and a two-story house for everybody years ago, but that’s just not the way things work now. We have to embrace the future and I think affordable housing is a big part of that.

If you agree, and believe that we need new faces on City council, sign your name here to stay in the loop.

See y’all later.
